"Since the first publication of my sentiments on this subject, A.D. 1803, several pieces, with different signatures, have appeared in some of the newspapers printed in this state (Connecticut) containing objections to them. I have not made any reply before this to those objections. And for the sake of brevity, I have now comprised them, together with some others which I have occasionally heard, in the following Appendix: and have endeavoured to state them in their full force."--preface.
